The Pact (A Melody)
06:03
|
|||
The hour is late
and it's long overdue,
I just couldn’t wait
for the fire to consume
As certain as night
I held on to your truth,
like a child to a kite
In the tempest of youth
Oh how you seemed forever
steady steering towards the light
unshaken in your fever
knowing never to look back
There's solace to the cycles
there's a stillness in the tides
there's wisdom in the seasons
slowly bridging the divide
But some things you can't reason
the war has taken toll
you thought you'd bought your freedom
when it was out of your control
You harnessed all your grief
tore the portrait from the frame
who knows what lies beneath
the ashes of your name
Your pride a solemn prison
you were sheltered from the view
I'm hoping you will listen
to that melody you knew
There's a sea of fallen leaves
and a desert of regret
the same sermon on repeat
I’m determined to amend
There's no meaning to the dance
no reward or accolade
stone erode the sentiment
in a trying of our faith
There's a pact between us two
as the years are easing in
with a past we can't undo
and the love we kept within

Diving Bells (Apnea)
04:27
|
|||
You said it would come
the permanent winter
An ocean of silence
would swallow the town
The church is abandoned
the ballrooms are empty
the children lit lanterns
and sleep underground
They’re ringing the bells
Our voices in the wind
They’re ringing the bells
It’s quiet everything
Drawn to the depths
of a bottomless lake
Each of us drifting
In a little glass cage
The waves rolling in
We’re caught in the wake
We’re not living in time
we don’t count the days
They’re ringing the bells
Our voices echoing
They’re ringing the bells
It’s quiet everything
Apnea, lay me down
in skies of kerosene
Apnea, wake me up
shake me from this dream
Our eyes they are covered
in the arms of our mother
and the distant laughter
in our diving bells
Their names are forgotten
our sons and our daughters
and their tears like a mirror
in our diving bells

A Silent Offering
05:21
|
|||
I was forging foreign dreams
into holy barricades
Skies were tearing at the seams
Hidden away, I was afraid
Had me pulling double shifts
down at the old assembly line
Blowing smoke and playing tricks
on my worn and weary mind
I ran circles round the block
Till I was broken and confused
Couldn’t untangle all the knots
I turned away the naked truth
The meaning of the prayers lost
Words have shed their sacred skin
the quite exile that I sought
came as a silent offering
Beyond reach, ways to hide
I stood beside myself a while
disappeared between the lines
without a trace, without a sound
At a loss for new beginnings
I committed to the day
gently cradled the unfolding
I let the weather dissipate
And as I knelt before the vision
of a sweetness yet to come
like a fragile intuition
it was there, then it was gone
Does this mean that we’re changing?
growing out of our old clothes
It’s sliding though my fingers
I’m afraid to face tomorrow
Does this mean that we’re leaving?
Did we iron out the folds?
Beyond reach, mystified
didn’t seem the stable kind
disappear the paradigm
lay down the veil, cherish the find

House of Longing
03:43
|
|||
The roots run deep in frozen ground
they wrap around
the fragments of the whole
the pieces of the soul
Take me to the origin
to that street again
in a rush of wind
I’ve nowhere else to go
nowhere else is home.
Memories like the evening sun
come pouring in
the crevasse in the floor
and crash upon the shore
Do I have a choice?
Am I still living in time?
Up the stairs to the photographs
the salted glass
the door was always open
A witness to devotion
You’re standing where they built a home
in the empty room
the void they left behind
Is it yours to fill or mine?
You chased the new millennium
and faced the other way
a tale of fallen kingdoms
that left you in their wake
Do I have a choice?
Was I out of touch?
Am I still living in time?
